We are pleased to introduce you the co-creator of the month (of July): Benjamin Lieb!
Benjamin is the author of the most prolific Type Idea on the Fontyou platform. Four fonts were inspired and developed from only one of his post! Being the co-creator of LeanO FY, LeanO Sans FY, Brixton FY and Belleville FY are 4 excellent reasons for being elected co-creator of the month!
We asked him a few questions about typography and creation.
-Which designer inspires you the most?
Matt Groening, for everything except typography.
-What is your fetish creation tool?
Blue Bic criterium. The green sucks.
-What is your favorite font?
I can’t name just one, forgive me, here is a shortlist:
• Swift, by Gerard Unger, for its chiseled curves, its impact in big size and its typographic color.
• Pluto, by Hannes von Dohren I thought I would get tired of this font, but I’m not! It has so much style; its friendly touch, the thin version, the curves of the k, K and R, it’s large width… but everything stays well balanced. Chan-mé (Awesome)!
• Domaine Display, by Klim Type Foundry. So class. I think this is my favorite didone. The more it’s bold, the more it’s sensual. It makes me a bit odd…
-What are your 3 darling projects on the Fontyou platform?
According to me, the script project “Sensations Gourmandes” by Peter Becker is a very good example of what French food packaging design would need, among the 100,000,000,000,000 scripts which comes out every day (often very “americanised” and too decorative for french public).
I’m secretly in love with Suzee FY too. It’s like if all Roger Excoffon fonts (except Antique Olive) have been mixed together. Suzee was born of this mixture, and it’s beautiful.
And recently, Wes FY by Jeremie. I was tired of using Futura and other geometric sans serifs to accompany the identities I design. I’m saving up to buy it. And it will definitely come into my classics!
